The term "Col d'Orcia" refers to the hill that overlooks the Orcia River. The Orcia River runs through the region of Brunello di Montalcino, and the farm's name is inextricably related to the actual place where the vines are grown. Col d'Orcia's purpose is to make the greatest wines possible from the remarkable mix of land and climate in this region of Montalcino.
Poggio al Vento is the house's main vineyard, and it has been rated "Cru" by the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG since 1982. A deep ruby crimson with faint garnet undertones. Fine, intense, and well-balanced. The aromas of traditional Sangiovese (ripe red fruits and tobacco) are nicely matched with the classic wood suggestions provided by the extended ageing in barrique. The exquisite structure encases the delicate, ripe tannins while revealing rich crimson and black fruit flavours.
