D'Arenberg - The Innocent Weed GMS 2020

Since 1912 the Osborn family have tended vineyards in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Today fourth generation family member Chester makes distinctive wines using traditional and sustainable methods both in the vineyard and the winery. From entry level to iconic, d’Arenberg wines are basket pressed with red wines placed in small batch open fermenters and foot trod. Known for an eclectic portfolio of oddly named wines and a bold red stripe that adorns each bottle, the range is considerable with over 70 wines and 36 grape varieties, with styles that include white, red, fortified, sparkling & dessert. 

 A classic, juicy, generous Grenache Mourvèdre Shiraz blend. Red fruits are the forerunners at this stage with fresh raspberries and cherry liqueur on the nose, pomegranate and rhubarb on the palate. Interesting spicy and herbal notes linger in the background adding interest. The palate is round and generous but with a taught line of acid that adds crunch and freshness and gently accentuates the fine pithy tannins. Beautifully balanced, youthful and lithely.
